When it comes to headphones, Astrom and Sony offer one of the best products. Astrom with their Extreme Weather Comfort Headphones and Sony’s WH-1000MX4.
With their constant updates and new features you never know which is worth your next paycheque.
Onboard Controls
Sony’s notorious touch sensors are always a miss or hit. The right ear cup provides access to playback and volume control and the left connects to the voice assistant; through the Sony Headphones Connect app. However, it is unfortunate that these touch sensors are not guaranteed to work all the time.
As for Astrom, there are a myriad of control methods, so you can use whichever suits you. Those methods include buttons to pair your devices, active noise canceling control, voice assistance access, and touch sensitive playback and volume controls on the right cup. All of which perform much better than Sony’s touch sensors.
Bluetooth
Both the Astrom and Sony headphones function through bluetooth and last hours without charging.
Astroms easy and fast pairing technology even allows you to switch between two devices that are connected simultaneously so you can throw away your dual headphone adapter. Sony also offers the same pairing technology through bluetooth.
Frequency Response
While Astrom and Sony produce high quality sound systems, Astrom’s frequency has a more neutral response compared to Sony, creating a better listening experience. Sony’s 1000 Hz feature makes it a little more difficult to catch certain vocal harmonies and even creates subtle high-pitched noises when music plays.
Software Feature
Based on your preferred brand, they both integrate software features that go hand in hand with their headphones.
Sony released their ‘Sony Headphones Connects app’ that includes features to customize your listening experience. From EQ controls, 360 reality audio, to audio sampling of low quality music.
Astrom's app offers access to firmware updates, equalizer and noise cancellation adjustments, voice assistant access with the help of alexa, and multipoint connectivity.
Battery Life
Depending on the frequent usage of software features and noise canceling intensity, this can play a major role in battery depletion.
Astrom’s headphones lasted longer, by approximately two hours, than Sony’s when the software features were altered to the user's liking. However Sony’s battery life was lower due to the noise canceling intensity and enabling audio upscaling.
Extreme Weather Conditions
During the coldest days of winter and the hottest days of summer, headphones can malfunction and breakdown. It is not guaranteed that the Sony headphones will be long lasting during those times. However, Astrom is able to function properly with the extra software features in weather between -20 degrees and 60 degrees celsius to offer you the best experience even in extreme weather.
